Benefits of a Steel Barn on Your Property

Owning business property or a residential property with a healthy amount of land may mean you also own equipment and tools that need a sturdy and protective storage option. Traditional properties like farms might utilize a wood barn, but there are benefits to upgrading to a metal barn. If you haven’t yet decided on a structure for your property, or you’re seeking a new type of structure, a metal barn could be the answer to your storage needs.

Benefits of a Steel BarnGarden Sheds

When you choose to purchase a steel barn from American Steel Carports, Inc., you’ll find that your overall costs for equipment and tool replacement go down because of the protection a metal barn offers. Here are some other benefits you’ll see when you choose to build a steel barn on your property.

Say Goodbye to Rust and Extra Wear. Tools and machinery that are left outside rust quickly and slowly begin to degrade. The tool set you use to work on a particular piece of equipment might have a lifespan of 25 years, but letting those tools sit outside without a cover may mean those tools aren’t worth their weight in scrap after just a few years.

Protect Animals Like Horses. Although many property owners choose to store their animals in traditional wooden barns, a metal structure is an excellent option for providing a safe environment for the animals. It’s easy to keep the interior of a steel structure dry, so animals like horses won’t have to deal with the dampness that could result from other types of barns.

Increase the Value of Your Farm or Property. A sturdy and well-made steel structure can provide functionality for your property, as well as an increase in its value. A nicely maintained steel barn looks updated and professional and can help when (or if) you decide to sell your property.

Replacing an Old Wooden Barn

Antique barns are a beautiful part of the countryside in many areas of the United States, but there are some benefits to replacing a barn that requires extensive renovation. Not only can you sell the wood of the barn to buyers who will transform the pieces into “reclaimed” pieces of furniture, but you can also benefit from a new steel barn that doesn’t require as much maintenance and repair.

A steel barn is an exceptional investment because it doesn’t require as much regular maintenance as a traditional barn. The time, energy, and money you must put into maintaining a wooden barn might be better spent on other projects. In addition to the low maintenance of a metal barn versus a wooden barn, the structure will also last many decades, which means an excellent investment value.

A Simple Design is Enough for Protection

It’s crazy to think that May is coming to an end and summer is just around the corner. With the increasing temperatures, though, it’s obvious that the heat will stick with us for some time. This means that we need to keep our belongings protected from the blazing sun.

Our company offers numerous designs and colors for you to choose from. However, that doesn’t mean that a simple design won’t protect your belongings from mother nature. Standard roofs are one of the most economical options that we offer, since the roof is included in the base price. For folks living in areas that rarely get snow, this roof style might be perfect. Take a look at this 18’W x 36’L x 11’H metal building:

Standard Roof
36×72 Walk-In Door (side)
10×10 Roll-Up Door (front end)

This metal building can be used as a storage room, a garage, or even a workshop, and the combination of the barn red and white colors gives it a very unique look.

A-Frame Horizontal Roof vs. A-Frame Vertical Roof

There are many options on how to customize a carport or metal building. Roof styles being one of those options. Although the following two that we’re about to mention are not the only options available, they are our most popular options. They are also hard to choose from unless you fully understand the orientation and reasoning behind the price difference.

The A-Frame Horizontal Roof (Boxed-Eave) is popular due to its residential style look. The ridges on the roof run front to back in sync with the roof line. This style is commonly used in areas that do not have much snow or rain fall but are not limited to those area. The panels run horizontally, so the unit requires a little maintenance to keep debris from piling up along the ridges.

The A-Frame Vertical Roof is our upgraded roof option. The ridges on this roof style run top to bottom from the peak down to the eaves. This option is popular in regions with heavy snow and rainfall. The direction of the panels makes it easy for debris to run off smoothly. This style of roof is the most expensive due to the extra material and reinforcement required for installation. Although this roof style is popular in areas with lots of snow and rain, many customers across the country still opt for his option due to the easy maintenance, sturdiness and look.

The order is placed. What now?

Installation Process:

You have placed your order and are anxiously anticipating the scheduling of your steel carport or garage. Here are a few things that you should know to ensure that your scheduled delivery goes quickly and smoothly.

American Steel Carports receives orders daily; all new orders go through an intake process, which can take between 24-72 hours. Once accepted, you will be contacted for scheduling. The scheduling process can take between 2-4 weeks. Older orders receive priority; however, the estimation of the time associated with your scheduling will depend on the carport size, the local weather, and the amount of orders surrounding you. There are a few things that we recommend that our customers do while they wait for the scheduling of their new metal building.

Every county is different; we recommend that all customers check with their local code enforcement to ensure that their building order meets their area’s requirements and obtain permits if necessary. Remember, alterations to your order should be made prior to scheduling. American Steel Carports has trained sales reps and engineers to help answer your questions and to make any accommodations that you may need.

Whether you plan to have your metal garage or carport installed on ground, cement, gravel, or asphalt, a few things should be done prior to scheduling. It is of extreme importance that your area be level and clear of any debris. It is also important that you notify American Steel Carports should you plan to have your steel building installed over an item such as an RV, boat, or any other object. Additionally, any steel carport or garage that is installed on anything other than a surface at ground level needs to be mentioned upon ordering or prior to scheduling.

American Steel Carports asks our customers to help ensure our installers’ safety. Nobody knows your property as well as you do. However, by contacting “call before you dig 811” at least a few days prior to delivery and installation, you can schedule an appointment to have your underground pipes and electrical wires marked. This ensures the safety of our workers as well as of your property.

You have your area ready, and you just received the call from American Steel Carports notifying you that your order is ready and on the way! Your building material will arrive on site with the contractors who will be installing it. Our scheduling is given in windows based on the weather and the distance between each customer. American Steel Carports values you time and makes it a top priority to arrive within the original time frame given. Be that as it may, there are times when scheduling can be delayed or, in some cases, ahead of schedule. Due to the nature of this profession, flat tires, installation issues, and weather can contribute to delays in scheduling. Our friendly staff will contact you if changes to your scheduling should arise, and you are welcome to contact us as needed during your scheduled delivery.

Delivery and installation should be a hassle-free process. Allow American Steel Carports to treat you like royalty and offer you peace of mind in knowing that we will be there for you every step of the way.

Looking for a fully insulated workshop?

American Steel Carports offers a great variety of metal buildings. Aside from your traditional metal building with a walk-in door and a window, we can go over the top with custom units that will suit all of your needs and specifications. You’ve got the idea; we’ll just follow your lead.

Custom units don’t necessarily need a ton of features and accessories if you don’t really want them, though. Insulation tends to be one of our most commonly considered options, but it is hardly ever bought. One of the main prerequisites for insulation to be added is that the panels (siding) of your unit must be fully vertical, keeping in mind that changing to vertical siding will increase the price of the metal building. Therefore, many customers prefer to add their own insulation. It’s important to let our customers know that adding any third-party insulation will void all of the warranties that the building might have, though.

Still have your doubts about insulation? Take a look at this 30’W x 51’L x 10’H custom metal workshop:

This metal workshop is fully vertical and fully insulated, with three (3) 10’ x 8’ openings (frame outs), seven (7) windows, a 36” x 72” walk-in door, an 8’ x 7’ roll-up door, and concrete anchors.

NOTE: American Steel Carports does not provide concrete work, and the surface area where the unit will be installed must be leveled.

Anchors: What You Need to Know

American Steel Carports uses 4 types of anchors or tie-downs when installing your carport. Rebar anchors (pin anchors) are used for standard installation on ground, gravel, clay, or sand. We also offer asphalt anchors, concrete anchors, and mobile home anchors (MHA) as an upgrade option for ground installation.

Installation:

Standard rebar anchors measure approximately 36” and are hammered through the base rail and into the ground. They are what is commonly used for ground installations, but many customers like to upgrade to mobile home anchors for the extra durability. Unlike rebar anchors, MHA (30”) are screwed into the ground and latched to the side of the base rail with a bolt. Mobile home anchors can also be added to your unit to give you an extra wind warranty. The suggested amount of mobile home anchors would have to be purchased to ensure the wind warranty, however.

Asphalt anchors are also latched onto the side of the base rail with a bolt and are approximately 30”. Concrete anchors are installed like rebar anchors, drilled through the base rail and into the concrete. Asphalt and concrete anchors can also guarantee the wind warranty when the suggested amount is purchased. The wind warranty is optional.

Concrete Slab:

When having concrete anchors installed, you have the option to also purchase L-Brackets, which will ensure that we do not chip the edge of your slab if you choose to make the building flush with the concrete. If you allow a lip of 3” or more of slab around the building, L-Brackets are not necessary. For more information on slab requirements, please contact us!

Site Readiness:

Anchoring is an essential part of carport installation, so having a level site is crucial. We suggest that the slope difference be no greater than 3 inches. Our installers can refuse to install on unlevel ground. To ensure everyone’s safety and per company policy, our installers will not install a carport or metal building unless they can ensure that it is properly anchored. We only install on ground, gravel, asphalt, and concrete. We do not anchor to railroad ties, cinderblock, storage containers, floating docks, or brick. Please contact our main office to inquire about installation on surfaces other than what was mentioned above.

You can always refer to our contract or contact us at (866) 730-9865 for further information on choosing the best anchors for your building and site installation.

It’s Time for a New Upgrade!

Metal barns have been in the industry for many years, and steel barns come in many shapes and sizes.

Customization is a big part of our company. It attracts most of our customers because of all the designs that we’re capable of building. And with American Steel Carports, you get a metal structure that’s not only well-built, but also engineer-certified to last for many years.

Have you heard of our colonial or wainscoat style? How about our “Texas cuts”?

Our colonial or wainscoat style is a design that provides side panels of one color ascending the wall to about the half-way point, where they meet with a contrasting upper wall color. This two-tone effect makes your metal building more visually appealing. This option is free in buildings with horizontal siding. However, if your building is fully vertical, then this option would come with an additional price.

Texas cuts, or 45° angles, give your metal building a unique look. This type of cut can be applied to frame outs or openings. Be aware that this option does come with an additional price per opening.

Take a look at this 20’W x 26’L x 9’H metal garage that’s rocking our two features described above:

• A-Frame Vertical Roof

• 2 – 9’ x 7’ Roll-Up Doors

• 2 – 45° Frame Out

• Colonial Style

• Concrete Anchors

This metal building turned out great, the excellent combination of colors making it stand out from its surroundings.

You can create your own design, too! Give us a call to speak with one our team members. We will help you design and build the perfect structure for you! Don’t forget to ask about our financing options. Want to see our buildings in person? Ask for your local dealer!
