Is Wood or Metal better for your Garage?

The most significant factor when choosing between a Metal or a Wood Garage is cost! Metal Garages require far less material to construct and can be installed in a fraction of the time a traditional Wooden Garage requires. These factors significantly reduce material and labor costs that would otherwise be factored into the price of your garage. Although Metal Garages are a fraction of the cost, that does not mean you are receiving an inferior product; on the contrary, Metal Garages have a far longer lifespan than wooden garages while requiring less upkeep.

what steel makes up a metal garage?

All Metal Garages are not made equally! American Steel Carports' pride is our superior Build Quality; we only use High-Quality Steel to manufacture our Metal Garages. We offer two different types of Steel Framing and Sheet Metal. Metal Garages can be framed using 14 Ga. or 12 Ga. Square tubing, with the latter being the strongest in the industry and boasting a 20-year rust Warranty. We can't forget the skin of your Metal Garage; for this, we offer 29 Ga and 26 Ga Sheet Metal; we highly recommend thicker sheet metal for areas with inclement weather, especially if you tend to receive heavy hail.

Roll Up Doors

Make the most of your metal garage with a roll-up door. This entry door allows for parking many various vehicles and different types of machinery inside your garage. Roll-up doors can be placed on gabled ends and your eave sides. The size of the roll-up door needed may vary depending on what will be stored inside the Metal Garage. We recommend going taller on your roll-up doors to fit any future vehicles or equipment when considering your door size.

Side Entry Roll Up Doors

Placing your Roll Up Doors on the Longer Side of your Metal Garage allows for easier vehicle maneuvering, especially larger ones like trucks or RVs. Side Entry is preferable when you need easy access to every vehicle stored inside your Metal Garage.

Metal Garages w/ Lean To

What is the purpose of adding a lean-to onto a Steel Metal Garage? This lean-to can serve many purposes; most customers like using this to store their camper or simply additional parking space for their vehicles. However, we have also seen this lean-to be used as a small area for cookouts or merely enjoying nature under the protection of your lean-to-metal roof. The Lean effectively works as a porch area that can provide cover for many various activities.

Need Two Lean to’s

One Lean To isn’t enough to meet your needs? No Worries, we can always add a second lean to on the opposite side of your Metal Garage to allow for more Storage / Parking. Fun Fact, this design would now be considered a Metal Barn.

Metal Garage: Color Options

When Selecting the Color for your Metal Garage, you need to consider the area where your Metal Garage will be installed. American Steel Carports offers 15 standard color options in 29 Gauge and 16 color options in 26 Gauge PBR Panel. These 31 different color options can be mixed and matched to fit any scene, whether next to a house or in nature.

Taller Roll Up Doors

Taller roll-up doors are needed to allow entry for bigger machinery or equipment. Don’t worry we’ve got you covered! American Steel Carports offers roll-up doors as big as 18’ wide x 18’ tall. Is that too big? No worries, we offer any custom sizes starting at 6’ Wide x 7’ Tall up to 18’ Wide x 18’ Tall.

Walk In Doors & Windows

American Steel Carports offers various walk-in doors, varying between fiberglass and heavy-duty steel doors. These doors also have the option of building windows into the Walk-In Doors. Window options vary between Double Pane and Single Pane Windows, the Double Pane providing a better insulation factor for your Metal Garage.

Vertical vs Horizontal

Metal Garages are not all built the same! Vertical roofs and siding on a metal garage are the pinnacle of strength in the industry, and this is due to the extra frame members that are required to produce a vertical metal garage. These Frame Members add extra strength and support that is missing in a Horizontal Metal Garage. Does this mean that a Horizontal Garage is an inferior product? Yes, but it is useful; horizontal Metal Garages have their place in the Market. However, we highly recommend staying away from them if you are subject to inclement weather, especially High Snow and wind Loads.
