Simple, Small, but Resistant

At American Steel Carports, we want our buildings to meet all your needs and expectations. We can accommodate your specific requirements, especially when it comes to building permits. We can add as much material as it takes to get the unit fully protected and certified to the requirements of the city.

It is important that you talk to your local building department to verify all the state codes, because not all states or even cities within a state have the same ones.

 

 

What if you need extra spacing on the sides?

 

Our buildings come with specific numbers of legs to withstand the wind and other elements. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing we can do to customize to your needs. Here is a notable example of a carport for a customer who decided to add two headers to the sides for extra spacing or to park a small vehicle:

 

• 10’W x 21’L x 8’H

• 12-Gauge galvanized tubing

• A-Frame Vertical Roof (Earth Brown)

• 2 – 9′ Header (one on each side)

• Concrete Anchors (90-mph wind warranty)

 

 

The outcome was beautiful, and the colors matched the house and the environment. Please be aware that headers will reduce the side opening height by approximately 6″ – 24″ depending on state codes and length of the header. We will have to reinforce the structure with extra material in order to provide durability.

Metal Building with a Lean-To

Additional Extensions to Your Metal Storage Building

Lean-tos are very handy when it comes to additions. They don’t just offer protection—they can also serve as extra space or a small carport for your vehicle! Most of our customers prefer a 3-foot or larger drop on their lean-tos, but remember that it’s your choice how to enhance your metal building!

Types of Lean-Tos:

We offer two different styles when it comes to lean-tos. The first one is the regular drop lean-to. As explained earlier, this lean-to has a gap from the original height, coming down to whichever height you prefer.

The second style is a continuous lean-to, which means that there’s no gap in between the first height from the second one. You can see the sample of a continuous lean-to below:

What Makes American Steel Carports Different?

Unlike other companies, we provide the right number of trusses in order to protect our metal buildings from the environment. However, we also recommend that you acquire our concrete, mobile home, or asphalt anchors in order to avoid disastrous situations. American Steel Carports does not offer concrete work. However, we highly recommend that our customers go visit their local building departments. The Importance of Having Mobile Home/Asphalt/Concrete Anchors

“Why do I need a wind warranty? Nothing happens here anyway! The anchors are an unnecessary expense! I’ll just stick with the rebar anchors.”

 

These are some of the comments that we hear all the time. However, strong winds can always catch us by surprise, especially at the start of summer. It’s better to stay safe than be sorry later on.

 

One of the things you must know is that we do offer free rebar anchors (measuring 30”), but those are only temporary—they don’t come with any type of warranty. That’s why is important for you to consider one of our three other anchor choices that will prevent any type of damage to your carport.

 

We offer both asphalt and mobile home anchors (both measuring 30”) for $25.00 each. Both of these types of anchors stick up 2/5 inches off the ground (the same as the base rail). We also offer concrete anchors (measuring 7”) for $10.00 each.

 

Here are two examples of why it is so important for you to consider purchasing anchors instead of getting our free rebar ones:

 

 

 

 

 

 

It might seem as if the anchors would not make a difference, but they do, especially in the southern areas of the country.

 

 

Nobody but you knows the exact wind scenarios of your area. If you’re not sure about your wind concerns, you can always go to your local building department for more detailed information. Remember, we’re here to help! If you want us to certify your metal building for winds above 90 mph, let us know! We will have our engineering department help build your metal carport or metal garage to withstand those winds.

Today can be the appropriate time to start looking for a metal building that will protect your livestock from the burning sun. Most southern regions tend to be affected by high seasonal temperatures, so it’s very important to keep your livestock safe and protected from that heat.

 

What about strong winds?

 

We can certify your metal building to stand against inclement weather. The pricing will vary depending on your area, since some regions might receive stronger winds than others. However, we believe that it’s better to add protection and be safe at all times.

 

How can a unit get certified for winds?

 

As mentioned above, it all depends on which region you’re located in. To ensure the specific wind rates, it is necessary to contact your city or visit your local city building department. Moving forward, the main protection is the addition of extra anchors. Remember, we do offer rebar anchors (temporary anchors) for free, but they do not offer any type of guarantee. For security against up to 90-mph winds, it’s far better to get our mobile home, asphalt, or concrete anchors. If you expect winds that are even stronger than 90 mph, we can add more supports and anchors to engineer certify your building up to 120 mph.
